Outlook 2010 for Mac osx – Import PST Files

For months I got the exactly same error described on Microsoft Kb : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2454260 when today I finally discovered what’s going on … If you have an PST with subfolders or anything at the root, you need to move those itens inside one of the default folder of an PST.

I had several folders created at the same level as the other default folders of Outlook, so when I moved all them into my inbox, Outlook for Mac is finally importing my Windows Office 2010 PST file.

As I wasn’t able to find this on the internet, I’m publishing here in case someone else need this solution.

One more thing, I have SP2 for Office for Mac 2010, and that didn’t fix this problem.

Error Signature: EXC_BAD_Access

Blackberry Server Express for Exchange – convert database collation

Hi guys,
Complementing my blog full of weird accomplishments that no one has made before, I´m sharing one more solution and maybe someone in the future could bennefit of it.

The Blackberry Server Express for Exchange 5.0.3 contains SQL scripts to create a database. I edited those scripts to make the database Case sensitive. That´s useful in cases like mine where the master database was changed because of some weird application that uses it.
This can be found also on Blackberry forums where I searched for help.
Here´s the link : http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Professional-Software/Server-Express-Create-Database-Error/m-p/1489069#M15324

I hope you guys make good use of it. Good luck

Windows Server 2008 R2 Shrink a volume

To complete the title, add the word “don´t work as expected” to the end.
The point is that even knowing that there´s free space available, I can´t shrink a volume beyond available shrink space.
I disabled paging file, memory Dump saving, and everything that I could. I defragmented my volume and using Sysinternals Diskview.exe I could see that there were some system files in the end of my disk … that´s why I couldn´t shrink more ..
I tried using several defrag tools and even defragmenting offline but nothing ..
I have a 1TB HD and I´m using about 35GB, and I couldn´t shrink more than 400GB .
I also tryed using a Mark Russonivich tool called PowerDefragmenter.exe but no success.
In the end, I decided to re-install the OS partitioning during the install process. After loosing a lot of time, this decision seemed to save-me more time.
If someday you discover a easy way to move system files to a cluster of a disk to the beginning of the disk, please let me know.

“You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting”

“You are attempting to open a file that was created in an earlier version of Microsoft Office. This file type is blocked from opening in this version by your registry policy setting.”

“You are attempting to open a file type File_Type that has been blocked by your File Block settings in the Trust Center.”

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

If CheckRegKey(“Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Security\FileBlock”,”Word2Files”) = 0 Then
    WshShell.RegWrite “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Security\FileBlock\Word2Files”,”00000000″,”REG_DWORD”
 End If

1.       Abilitar a conta local “Guest”
– Abrir o “computer management” ( compmgmt.msc )
– Ir para “Local Users and Computers”
– Ir para “Users”
– Abrir as propriedades do usuário “Guest” e desabilitar a opção “Account is disabled”

– Abrir o console “Local Security Policy” (secpol.msc)
– Ir para “Local Policies”
– Ir para “Security Options”
– Ir para a policy “Network access : Sharing and security model for local accounts” – mudar para “Guest Only”

– Abrir o console “Local Security Policy” (secpol.msc)
– Ir para “Local Policies”
– Ir para “User Rights Assignment”
– Ir para a policy “Deny access this computer from the network” – remover o usuário “guest”

Error when adding a Virtual Server R2 physical COM port mapping

When you try to configure the COM port mapping option, to redirect for example your COM4 to the virtual server guest machine, you might receive this error message :

“The COM port settings could not be saved. The configuration value could not be
set. The value is out of range.”

This behavior occurs if you´re trying to map other ports than COM1, COM2, COM3 and COM4.
Check this Microsoft KB article :
Resuming, you have to use one of COM1 to COM4 physical machine ports to make it work.
You can change your device COM port editing it´s properties, and selecting a free port.

Hyper-V to Virtual Server 2005 R2

Is there a way to migrate a virtual machine from Hyper-V to Virtual Server 2005 ? Yes I´d say.

First you should read this article to understand some stuff :
I Use Virtual Server 2005 R2 on a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Phisical Host.
I bought a new Hardware, and installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, and Hyper-V.
So I copied my VHD´s from Virtual Server, to 2008 R2 server, and created a new Hyper-V machine attaching the VHD´s. The first thing that comes up when starting the Guest host, is a warning showing that I should uninstall Virtual machine aditions from Virtual Server, and apply Hyper-V virtual machine aditions. So I did it ! When rebooting, I noticed something about “Changing HAL” (hardware abstraction layer) And I thought .. this is bad, if I want to roll back.
Well, the Guest machine works as a Rocket !!! much faster, much better !!! the world became wonderful after that. Until the moment I had a problem with my brand new server, and had to roll back the Virtual Guest to Virtual Server 2005.
First thing I did was uninstall Hyper-V aditions, and shut down the Guest machine. I copied my VHD´s back to the Virtual Server Host, and just “added” the pre-existing machine, taking advantage of the .vmc file. When I started the guest machine, It started to boot !!! but freezed.
Here´s the trick !! remember that the Hyper-V changed the HAL of the guest machine ? that´s the key. All you have to do is copy the c:\windows\system32\hal.dll from another guest machine to this one. How are you going to do that ? simple ! attach the system VHD to another guest machine, and copy from the working one to the Hyper-v damaged one. After that, attach the VHD back to the original machine, and boot it ! Maybe you´ll have to start it first on safe mode to finish some OS changes, but it will work !
Here, it´s working fine, I installed again Virtual Server 2005 aditions, and it´s pretty fine.
